One thing is a range of skills. An amazing magician makes the impossible seem possible and at the same time gets his audience to feel something. It could be laughter, it could be wonder, it could be fear. Always remember that a magic trick without emotion is just a puzzle.
The Platform Magician performs for groups of people between , let's say 15 to 80 people. He or she normally stands on a small raised stage to be seen above the heads of the audience. That's where the term Platform Magician comes in, they use a "platform" to stand on. Often they have to be able to play up really big to the crowd and the next moment whisper quietly as they encourage the crowd to move closer to not miss something amazing. A usual place to find these types of magicians is Trade Shows that companies put on. Another is magic buskers. Magicians who busk have to act like a showman to encourage the crowd to stop then wow them with some great magic, get the crowd to like them and then get the crowd to pay them some money. Out of all the skills a magician needs, the last one comes in real handy.
