The appearing wand trick is the perfect first magic trick for a young child to do. If they can count to seven then they will be able to present this magic trick. Even if they can can't count that far they will still be able to do it but they won't get as big a thrill out of doing it.
The version you are getting here is one that I have designed myself using magic wands. Next to the rabbit, the magic wand is about the most universally recognised magic symbol out there. Kids love it when they think they can make a magic wand appear and disappear.
I do not know the origin of this illusion but there are many versions out there. The best I have seen is called 'Vanishing The Elephant' by one of magic's greatest designers of illusions. His name is Jim Steinmeyer. To coincide with the release of his terrific book of the history of magic illusions called "Hiding The Elephant", Jim - who is a talented illustrator - made this puzzle where an elephant vanishes before your eyes. It is very deceptive. It was printed in Magic Magazine about 5 years ago.
Print out this appearing wand trick free download and use it as is on the paper or better still, glue the printed out download onto some cardboard (then cut along the lines) to make yourself an easier to handle version of this fun trick.
You can keep a copy of the appearing wand in your wallet. If you have a young child to entertain and a few minutes handy, then flatten out the folded creases and tell them that you will make them into an instant magician. Let them perform the magic instead of you. Make them say some magic words and wave their hands over the picture too - they love doing this - and they make the wand appear and vanish. You will be the coolest person to them for a long time after this.
