Are Simple Magic Tricks Any Good?

Try these ones, watch your audience's reaction
and make up your own mind.

The only people who say simple magic tricks aren't any good are some magicians. Why? Because magicians like to spend lots of time practising really hard sleight of hand moves to impress other magicians. Along the way they forget it doesn't really matter to the audience how something is done. The audience just want to be amazed and if you can, amuse them a little. That's what I think anyway. You WILL be able to amaze your family and friends with these tricks.

Watch these magic tricks and each time, pause the video before you look at how it is done. Think for a moment about how you feel. Do you feel amazed and excited? Maybe write your feelings down. NEVER EVER forget that feeling you have right at that moment.

I'll tell you why. As soon as you watch the rest of this video you will feel a little let down because the tricks are not hard to do at all. You'll start to think nobody will ever be fooled by that, it's too easy. Before you knew the secret, it seemed like 'magic' for you and that's the way it'll be for everyone else too.

There's two things to always remember here:
  • A magic trick that is simple can easily make you go wow just as easily as a really hard to do one

  • This why magician's keep their magic secrets. As soon as you know how something is done, that wonderful magical feeling that makes you feel so good just disappears and that's no fun for anyone.

...and Do put some practise time in. To show you the difference between practising a trick and not practising I did exactly that in the next 5 videos. Videos 1,2 and 3 I didn't practise the tricks or what I was going to say. Watch how I stall for time trying to think of what to say and what move comes next.

Then watch videos 3 and 4. These two I put just half an hour of practise in and rehearsed what I was going to say. They are a lot better because of it.

So the more you practise how to do the trick and rehearse what you are going to say, the more people will like what you do.

Even Julian uses some simple magic tricks. Go back to his Julian's Magician School to learn some more.
